On Monday 5th March Rethink Rebuild Society Managing Director Dr. Haytham Alhamwi delivered a talk at the Fylde Coast Amnesty Group in an open meeting where members of the public were invited. Dr. Alhamwi recited his story in Syria and the story of his family and relatives after the start of the Syrian uprising in 2011 and explained the conflict dynamics that later followed. He also talked about the issue of Syrian refugees here in the UK, clarifying that most of them are professionals - not necessarily people living under poverty - who were fleeing from a murderous regime. He reminded the meeting that Britain had yet to live up to its promise of admitting 20,000 Syrians by 2020.
