We had a successful 'Living Library' event at Longsight Library on Wednesday 22nd March, as part of the SICK! Festival.
The experiences of refugees connect our local communities to tragedies unfolding across the globe. Whilst the media and politics seem to overflow with opinions about the place of refugees in our society, opportunities for dialogue between displaced people and other members of the communities into which they arrive are rare.
Living Library – A Refugee in Manchester gave people an opportunity to meet people with unique, often challenging stories, and others who work with these communities as they arrive in the city. Visitors to the Living Library had 15 minutes to share a frank, open conversation, to listen, to ask questions and to reflect.
The feedback from the event was very positive in that it helped people understand each other better and built bridges between refugee and host communities.
