New York Visit to Advocate for Better Migration and Refugee Policies

Our Development Coordinator, Amaf Yousef, participated - as part of the Network for Refugee Voices delegation - in several meetings on the margins of the 72nd Regular Session of the UN General Assembly in September. During an event celebrating the anniversary of the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants, Amaf emphasised the need to refocus the refugee debate on human rights rather than in financial and economic terms. He also made contributions to the "NYC Global Mayors Summit on Migration and Refugee Policy and Practice", and conducted several bilateral meetings with states representatives where he advocated a more systematic inclusion of refugee voices in policy making as well as the resonance of their intake and the depiction of human rights narrative in developing both GCR and GCM. During his visit he also participated in a panel following the screening of "8 Borders 8 days" film hosted by Independent Diplomat, Civic hall and NYU Centre for Global Affairs.
